Practice Paying Forward
by Marion Highman
“We say we waste time, but that is impossible.
We waste ourselves.”
How can we build up spiritual credits for our future? If we simply made a conscious choice to be more present in the present it would help us a lot. Being good and practicing kindness is part of our original nature. Helping others and being co-operative is not only natural for the soul, but at an environmental level it is how we can survive in the world. No man or woman is an island, no matter how much some of us may try to be, and for our own survival we have to learn how to co-exist with each other. If our view of the world is that it is a bad and scary place to live in, then really we are in a fighting mode with everyone. If we believe that everyone and everything is out to get us then that is how we will experience the world and our life will be tough.
But on the other hand, if our worldview is one that sees the world as benevolent and that everything and everyone wants to co-operate with us, then our journey through life will be a happier and smoother one. The choice is ours. The challenge is to keep those thoughts created by our ego mind under control.
“Tell the negative committee that meets inside
your head to sit down and shut up.”
When we co-operate with others, without any motive, then we gain a spiritual credit in the present, for the future. Because although we may help this person in this situation here, maybe we actually need help at a later date from someone else somewhere over there. If we are in spiritual credit because of our unconditional practice of paying forward then, at our time of need the help that we need at that time will be there for us. And when we experience that much needed help we call that person an angel or a Godsend, in other words God sent an angel to help us at our time of need.
We can see this quite clearly with traffic on the road. We stop and let some stranger out and they join the traffic flow. Then later when we need to make a turn onto the road, someone else – another stranger will let us in. Of course, if we have the ego mind-set and think: Why should I let him/her in? Then we know that further down the line no-one will give us an inch or a finger of help when we need some co-operation, no one will give way. Giving way, does not mean giving in or giving up at all. That is because the whole Universe works with flow and co-operation. Our human body and the whole of the natural world works in this way. Without being in flow then illness and decay set in.
The Native Americans and ancient tribal communities have a deep spiritual understanding of this. They know that nothing can really be owned, we are just passing through and we have to work with Mother Nature. Unfortunately, the view of western man and science is that Nature needs to be controlled. And we can see how well we are doing with that model today with global warming! We are seeing the disintegration of eco-systems that were designed to keep the whole show on the road so to speak.
“Someone is sitting in the shade today
because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
We could say that at the heart of our problem is trust. A distinct lack of trust for our self and other souls too, and we can put God and the world in the same basket. If our mind-set is one where we think that people are out to get us, even if they are not, that low frequency vibration which we are emitting will certainly attract takers, abusers and dis-respecters of one sort or another. And what will this do? This will of course confirm our belief that the world is a negative and dangerous place!! But, here’s the thing, and this is something that we simply just do not get. The world around us, well it simply mirrors how we are, the world mirrors us!! The outer world will match our thoughts, feelings and vibrations, and whatever we are transmitting from the inner world on that frequency, it will find a complimentary match. So if we are fearful and upset, then the Universe will send us people and situations that will match what we are putting out!! If we really understood this we would make a concerted effort to clean up our own act. And yes, we could not afford to indulge in having a negative or waste thought because the consequences of our thinking could quite literally be devastating.
So next time we ask the question: Why did this or that happen? We should think carefully about what we had been thinking or doing before the event. There really is no such thing as a coincidence, but there certainly is synchronicity. If we do not want it, then we have to change and stop empowering those negative and weak thoughts and feelings. We know that the law of energy responds to whatever we are putting out, and that will come back to us.
“If you change the way you look at things,
the things you look at change.”
Suspicion and distrust are totally destructive energies, this is the old paradigm currently being played out in the world. So we have to create thoughts that are positive and benevolent in nature for the self and others. It is not wise to be a simpleton, but it is wise to be cautious. We need to be sensible not senseless, but we should not live from fear. When we live from fear then those shadows of fear will be cast over our whole life. Then what will happen? We will be living one very depressed and unhappy life.
“As you sow, so shall you reap.”
This good old saying in almost all the scriptures makes things very clear. Therefore, we have to make the effort to sow before we can reap. There are no short cut so that we can go straight to the reaping of the harvest. Actually, whatever we have sown, good or bad those seeds will germinate in their own time. Basically this is how things go: we have to give before we can get. This is contrary to our current worldly thinking, in which we think we have to get before we can give. So really, giving is having, because whatever we give away, with the right intentions, will return to us. It is good to check our accounts sometimes: How much have we sown?
Paying forward is like investing in blessings for our future. It is similar to understanding random acts of kindness, and making those actions less random. Being kind is actually normal like being co-operative, this mutuality is beneficial for all of us. Really, kindness is naturally not random at all it is our true state, but we are currently living some sort of illusion of a distorted reality.
Gratitude and appreciation are really good seeds to be sowing in our life. This because these will bring in a harvest of happiness and abundance.
It’s Time… to choose to be happy. It is the nature of our thoughts that will dictate the quality of our life experience. A positive mental attitude will help us cope with the challenges in life with ease and grace.
