Natural Laws

Posted on September 12, 2010

For everything there is a season,
A time for death and a time for birth;
A time for reaping and a time for sowing;
A time for weeping and a time for laughing;
A time for silence and a time for speaking;
A time to lose and a time to seek;

The laws of nature, seasons, time, etc. teach us that there is an inherent tempo, balance and harmony to everything in the universe. However, when we disturb that balance we fall out of sync with life’s rhythm. The human spirit is no different. Just as there are laws of nature to which even the smallest physical particle is subjected, so too the human spirit is governed by spiritual laws, and in turn becomes restless and peace-less when those laws are violated.

Just as a healthy body is evidence that we are respecting the physical laws of life, so too, inner peace, happiness and serenity are testimony of abiding by spiritual laws. Nature, when left to its own devices, is perfect. Think of a simple flower, a flowing river, or a sunset – each element abides by its own laws, and beauty and harmony exist as natural products of the ebb and flow of creation. However, we witness the results of man’s interference with the cycles of nature every day on our television sets.

In the same way, if we recognise that our own true nature is of peace and love – and yet we continue to pollute our minds with negative thoughts and feelings – then what will be the result? We do have a choice. We can ‘go with the flow’ of others who chose to carp, criticise and complain (and therefore end up in an ocean of unhappiness) or we can decide to make a different choice – to have the courage to align with our true ‘nature’, and take responsibility for our own happiness.

Happy people see the shortcomings but choose to focus on the strength. Happy people can see the “loss”, but choose to focus on the “profit”. Happy people can see the challenge, but take it as an opportunity.

We also need to recognise the wisdom of the cyclical laws of our own lives. There is a time in our life to share and give, and a time to replenish and rejuvenate. We need to know when and how to be ‘out there’ – and when to ‘go back to the earth’ – giving ourselves time to be quiet and reflective. A seed in winter may appear dormant, but there are creative forces at work that bring forth newness in spring. Time spent ‘with the self’, nurturing the highest qualities, is a necessary part of the process of being at our best in the world.

It’s time… to get in touch with the rhythm of life, and to respect and work in harmony with our highest nature.  Only then can we truly blossom into our full potential and you become one of those “Happy” people!
