Happy and Peaceful New Year – 2012

Posted on Jan 1, 2012

Dear Friends and Family,

Happy New Year! Happy New Life!  And a Happy New Soul!

The year 2011 has been a dramatic year – a year full of surprises which will certainly go down in history as one of those landmark years, one which has the highest count of life altering events.

The past year saw the proliferation on a massive scale of Steve Jobs creations – the iMac, iPad, iPod and iPhone that continue to change the way people live, function and entertain themselves.  We witnessed the power of Facebook and how it can move nations.  The rise of the Arab Spring; people standing up for liberty and dignity after decades of oppression.  On the other hand, the Japanese quake and all the other shocking cataclysms have traumatized the world.  For the first time in history we were able to broadcast these gruesome scenes around the globe as they were happening.  The scientists reported that the poles are shifting, creating more ice melt.  News broadcasters commented tongue-in-cheek that the only good piece of news was the Royal wedding of the decade – that of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

No matter what the events, they all evoked various emotions from the inner recesses of our soul – the other person’s pain became our pain.  Catastrophic events drew everyone away from the head – the cognitive and the rational – into the heart – feelings, emotions, kindness and compassion.  In fact, there is also a further stress as we try to make sense of all these events – the reason for the wars and the premature and innocent deaths around them, the unpredictable fury of nature; the polarity between the rich and poor growing wider by the day and the list goes on!

It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by these events; however perhaps there is another perspective we have missed or another viewpoint we can foster.  These unprecedented events are calling upon us to live by our inner virtue more than ever before – the qualities of truth, purity, kindness, peace, love etc.  Our soul energy needs to vibrate at an even higher frequency than the elements now for us to transcend the effects of what may come.  In fact on the one hand the energy seems to be going downhill, but the truth of the matter is we need not be sucked into that momentum.  Meditation enables us to live in a different plane of consciousness.

On a personal level, I can say 2011 has been a very fruitful, productive and abundant year for me.  In fact, I feel a deeper peace and calm.  I have taken this time to solidify my own purpose – that of giving and sharing from the heart.

One of Dadi Janki’s latest points touched me deeply about the association between feelings and memories.  She pointed out the need to clear out more of the negative impressions in the sub-conscious in order to create pure feelings and good wishes for all.  What stops me from loving someone unreservedly is the memory I carry of my interactions with that person.  Dadi is completely free of negative or waste thoughts about anyone and so she is able to see everyone in a new light so to speak!

Many of the articles I have written over the past year have brought more insights into my own life – I write just as much for myself as I do for my readers as I personally am a lover of truth and like to get to the heart of the matter.

Everything I write arises from some life experience.  The article ‘Defining Success’, for example really did arise from the spiritual success of the Inner Peace and Inner Power Retreat held in Mount Abu, India.  ‘Overcoming Dependency’ was written after several conversations with a friend in London who can’t seem to escape the trap of a co-dependent relationship.  ‘Values are Caught and not Taught’ was a very popular article which took birth following a conversation with a friend who met a former pupil twenty years later and found that the principles she had learnt as a student were still very much in her life.  ‘Enough’ was written after observing the waste in the world!  ‘The Best Things in Life Are Free’ was inspired during my trip to Vancouver – where the beauty is majestic and nature gives freely!  ‘Fasting’ was of course written for the holy month of Ramadan – for the first time this year, I spent the whole ‘hot’ month of Ramadan (August) in Kuwait!

I also make it a point to practice all that I write.  I believe life is a study, it’s also an art and I am crafting the sculpture of my life.  If there is a knock or a bruise, it’s there for my benefit!  In the end I will be perfected by it and my soul will look even more beautiful.  I just have to remain still inside and have the faith that the situations will carve the right curvature.

The practice of constantly seeing myself as a soul and not a body helps immensely on my spiritual and physical journey.  I also had some shocking news that a close friend and colleague has been struck with terminal cancer. Yet I have seen how this wisdom that we are all souls has helped shape her consciousness and mine.  We talk about death quite openly – we even laughed last night saying that she had made it into 2012!  She is not afraid and is making preparations from her heart to simplify her life.

This year, the articles will have a new addition – I intend to add a reflection at the end of the article to help you connect the topic with your own life journey.  If you would like to leave a comment on the blog, please feel free to do so.  Also, feel free to suggest any topic you would like discussed and I will do my best to accommodate your request.

“Thank You” is not enough to sum up my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for my spiritual sisters who have also put in hours and hours of time and energy from the heart to help edit, shape and promote ‘It’s Time’ – a big hug to Melinda Hewitt, Carol Lipthorpe and Viannie Chua – Bless u all!

The year 2012 is going to be more about the preparations we need to walk the inner journey, the development of the soul.

My wish for each one of you is that you may follow your truth and create your own inner harmony, so that we together orchestrate a beautiful symphony of love and cooperation.

Yours in peace and love,

aruna
