How’s Your Attitude?

How’s Your Attitude?

“Gratitude is a quality similar to electricity: it must be produced and discharged and used up in order to exist at all.”

William Faulkner

Attitude relates to how we think, it is a posture of the mind.  We can be grateful or grumpy!   We can also talk about the law of attraction and how with our thoughts we create a certain kind of atmosphere, an inner mental environment.  We know that thoughts of upset, anger and depression literally hang in the air, so whatever is going on in our heads leaks out into the atmosphere and other people will naturally pick up this discharged energy.

In Hindi “vrutta” is a circle or round shape.  In Hindi “vriti” is attitude. There is a saying “vrutta se vriti”, meaning that which encircles me or that which I surround myself with, becomes my attitude.  Whatever I repeat constantly in my mind, reinforces those thoughts.  If it’s positive thoughts then a positive attitude, if its negative thoughts then a negative attitude is cultivated.

So it’s wise to check: What is the atmosphere like inside my mind? What dialogue continues to take place in my mind? Each person has the same type of thoughts every day and that’s why neither the person nor attitude changes. Do I feel like living inside my mind?  If not then now is the time to change my thinking and to break free from the negative cyclic thinking.  There is no need to be a victim of my own thinking.  I am the master creator of my thoughts, therefore I have the power to change my thinking for the better.

As children we learn from our parents.  So the child’s confidence is very much dependent on how the mother and father have instilled confidence in the child. If the child thinks: “I’m successful.  I’m good.  I’m special.”  Then, yes that’s the confidence the child grows up with, so we develop a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

We have to create and reinforce our positive attitude with some kind a discipline.  This is not a haphazard process, it requires a conscious choice to change, and we have to put some effort into making these changes.  Often we fail to see the connections with our thinking, we do not recognize that how we think today is a result of many years of pattern making from the past.

One day an astrologer was asked: “How can you tell the future?”  He replied: “If you look at humans and their thoughts and behaviour you can project what their future is likely to be.”  If someone doesn’t change their attitude, then we know what is going to be the result.   If humans do not change then those patterns will repeat. That is because we are quite simply a product of our thinking, and we are influenced by our family, friends, education, society, environment, all these will stimulate our conscious self.

What is going to help you have a good attitude?

  • A positive attitude is about creating determined thoughts.
  • Don’t create weak thoughts under any situation.
  • Keep such a strong attitude to just stay positive no matter what.
  • Constantly ‘check in’ with your mind: What’s going on in there? What are the quality of my thoughts?
  • Have the aim to create a peaceful and stable mind.
  • Maintain an attitude of self-respect.
  • Create a ‘can do’ attitude – for every problem there is a solution.
  • Optimism – a mind is like a parachute, it works best when it is open.
  • Determination and faith.
  • Sustain your aim and focus on the journey of life.
  • Say, “Yes!” to life and develop the art of appreciation and gratitude.

Let’s look at the story of the boy who had an attitude of faith.  There was a village in need of rain, so all the village prayed for rain.  But the people of the village had doubts and fears that there might be no rain.  They were trapped by their fear.  But one boy had an attitude of faith, and he believed there would be rain.  That boy was the only one who showed his faith by turning up with an umbrella!

When we have a strong determination to change the atmosphere and improve the energy and vibrations, we will find a way to work things out.  Actually, our attitude, vibrations, vision, words and actions are all connected.  Just like radio waves on the electromagnetic spectrum travel both short and far distances, so do our thoughts.

“Develop an ‘attitude of gratitude’.   Say thank you to everyone you meet for everything they do for you.”

Brian Tracy

When we develop a conscious practice to have an ‘attitude of gratitude’ this is the best form of investment and insurance for happiness, for everything boomerangs back.  This is how we will greatly increase our chances of experiencing a happy life.

It’s Time… to insure and ensure our attitude is positive and filled with gratitude.
