Special Diwali Greetings to All (Special Version)

Diwali is popularly known as the festival of lights.  For Hindu’s on all five continents, Diwali is one of the most famous festivals of the year and celebrated with great splendor.

The name ‘Diwali’ is a contraction of the word ‘Deepavali’, which translates into a ‘row of lamps’.  Diwali involves the lighting of several ‘dipaks’, small clay lamps filled with oil in which a cotton wick is placed, to signify the triumph of good over evil.  The house is cleaned thoroughly from top to bottom prior to the festival, and these lamps are kept on during the night, all in order to invoke Laxmi, the Goddess of Wealth!

Firecrackers are burst because it is believed that they drive away the evil spirits.  On the actual day of Diwali everyone wears new clothes and greets family and friends, sharing specially prepared Diwali snacks, both sweet and salty items.  Most devote businessmen also insist on beginning new account ledgers on this auspicious day, believing it will bring Laxmi (wealth) to them throughout the year.

According to Hindu mythology, the most important aspect of Diwali is the return of King Rama back to his kingdom after being in exile for 14 years.  As he arrived, the solemn kingdom was brought back to light, joy and cheer once again and rows of dipaks welcomed the great King.

If we put this in a spiritual context, we are in fact those living lights, the dipaks.  Our soul represents the wick, while the clay lamp is the body in which the wick sits.  Once we apply the oil of knowledge and strike the connection with the Supreme, we are illuminated, enlightened and begin to share that light with others.  When enough of us come together, that critical mass shall light up the world.  And all darkness will disappear forever.

We like King Rama, also have to reclaim our sovereignty and return back to the subtle throne of our inner kingdom.  A new era is dawning!

It’s time… for NEWNESS!  To clean up our act and to drive away old evil spirits.  To create new accounts in our relationships.  To cultivate a new vision and attitude and most of all to begin a new life.  A time to share sweet words and to rejoice constantly – with or without the firecrackers!
